  23. we have got a newly installed TeX along your kpathsea-mechanism here
  24. (on Solaris2.3), which is a great progress over the old hacked one.
  25.  
  26. But there is one problem, for which we don't have an elegant solution:
  27. latex2e needs altered, but equal-named .sty files for its base distribution.
  28. The old way we would have maintained separate scripts with corresponding
  29. pathsettings. But this is history with kpathsearch.
  30.  
  31. We wanted to minimize problems and so hoped to install the old and the
  32. new LaTeX version seperately, to serve conservative and innovative users as well.
  33.  
  34. So far we don't see any way to hinder TeX searching (and finding) the other
  35. set of base style files.

  37. I have skimmed through the newsgroup comp.text.tex for this problem 
  38. without any success.
  39.  
  40. Can you comment on this? Do we have overlooked something?
